Our History and Team
Safer Home Services is the only home services company with a “Brain Trust.” Our founders have not only one, but two Entomology degrees AND one with a PhD.
It starts with Chuck Steinmetz and Phillip “Doc” Nichols as the certified bug experts, with those degrees to back them! To lead the success, we have the Safer Home Services President, Jim Swayne. Here’s a little more about them:

The Doc | Phil Nichols, PhD
While working to complete his doctorate in entomology, Phil did a quick tour as a high school teacher of Advanced Biology and Chemistry. Doc then ventured into the corporate world as a business owner and employee for large and midsize pest control and turf companies. He has spent his career bringing scientific improvements and rigor to the pest control industry.

The Innovator | Chuck Steinmetz
Before Chuck, the only option for pest control was monthly spraying. Chuck invented Once-A-Year Pest Control. Armed with his knowledge as an entomologist, Chuck took the peridomestic nature of cockroaches and used that to create a system to keep pests outside rather than trying to kill them once they were already inside. It revolutionized the industry.
Chuck grew businesses around his invention. He created Sears Authorized Termite & Pest Control, which became one of the largest pest control companies in the United States. He also found and operated Middleton Lawn & Pest Control, one of the largest companies in Florida.

The Expert | Jim Swayne
Jim has been in the pest and termite control business for over 30 years. From growing up hunting and fishing in the mountains of Pennsylvania to his years spent on the open ocean and in coastal estuary systems, Jim’s passion as an environmentalist drove him to lead improvements in the industry. After personally protecting thousands of homes from pests, Jim continued to lead in senior and executive positions in pest control companies.
Taking the best from the industry, Jim decided to combine forces with Chuck and Phil to start Safer Home Services.
